Filmfare Awards 2019, Badhaai Ho Controversy: Now, Writers Shantanu And Akshat Withdraw Their Names From The Nominees' List
It's all over for Badhaai Ho at the Filmfare Nite on Saturday as far as the Writers Award goes. After Jyoti Kapoor created a furore by claiming that she had not been nominated when Badhaai Ho was her original work, Shantanu Srivastava and Akshat Ghildial have withdrawn their names from the Nominees' List.

The duo took the decision after Jyoti's interview to Firstpost. Talking to SpotboyE.com, Shantanu says, "We don't know what she's talking. Badhaai Ho was our original baby. We wouldn't like to be considered for an award which someone else is claiming.

Akshat hasn't met Jyoti in his life. I have seen her only once pass by me. And mind you, the story idea of Badhaai Ho didn't even come from Junglee Pictures. So how come Jyoti says that Badhaai Ho is her's?

The premise of this story had been developed actually by Akshat, when he was planning an ad along the same lines in 2012.

Junglee Pictures' President Priti Shahani had told a section of the media that Jyoti's name was not considered for the Filmfare awards because her name had been added in the film credits merely in good faith. Responding to that, Jyoti had said, "No one in this industry gives you credits in ‘good faith’, especially to a writer. For all practical purposes, I was the first hired writer (by Junglee) on this project and that’s why you see my name in the credits, on the poster and on the trailer."

Adds Shantanu, "Anyway, now Akshat and I can finally sleep peacefully. The last few days have been extremely traumatic. We are happy that we withdrew our names. We are feeling light."

At the time of going online, Shantanu had also tweeted about his withdrawal from Filmfare. Read the tweet in question below:
